Valerie earned her Juris Doctor from George Mason University School of Law, where she concentrated in Intellectual Property. During law school, she excelled in oral advocacy, earning top honors in competitions such as the Giles S. Rich National Moot Court Competition and the Thacher Intramural Mock Trial Competition. She graduated with an Excellence in Oral Advocacy Award and also gained valuable IP litigation experience as an intern at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
Before law school, Valerie earned dual degrees in Biological Sciences and Philosophy from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. While there, she co-founded and led the North American Intercollegiate Chinese Association (NAICA), a nonprofit dedicated to promoting cultural empowerment and professional networking for Chinese American students. Following her undergraduate studies, Valerie worked for two years as an IP specialist at a full-service intellectual property firm, where she assisted with patent prosecution, handled U.S. Patent and Trademark Office filings, and supported litigation and administrative matters—experience that sharpened her research skills, attention to detail, and ability to adapt to the evolving landscape of patent law.
