Long Arm of the Law Affirms Default Judgment against Chinese Drywall Manufacturer

On January 28, 2014, the Fifth Circuit upheld a $2.7 million default judgment against a Chinese drywall manufacturer, Taishan Gypsum Co., Ltd. (“Taishan”) arising from the well-known multi-district litigation captioned, In re Chinese-Manufactured Drywall Products Liability Litigation, No. 09–MD–2047 (E.D.La.) (“MDL”).  The Fifth Circuit’s ruling is significant not only with respect to jurisdictional challenges for foreign defendants, but it is also important for contractors with allegations against foreign manufacturers of allegedly defective products.  Full Story
