Profile

Mike is an associate in the Intellectual Property practice. Mike’s practice includes domestic and foreign patent preparation and prosecution in a variety of chemical technologies such as drilling systems, drilling fluids, treatment fluids, primary and secondary recovery systems and methods, well treatments, and downhole tools. Mike’s clients include service providers and resource producers in oil and gas industries.

Mike’s previous legal experience includes patent prosecution and preparation with a small Houston IP firm.  Mike prepared patent applications related to petrochemicals, plastics, carbon capture and sequestration, and digestive drugs. Mike also researched a variety of IP issues such as prior user rights and claiming terms of degree. Mike graduated from the University of Houston Law Center, during which time he externed at the US Patent and Trademark Office and participated in the leadership of the UHLC IP Student Organization.

Mike graduated from the University of Colorado Boulder with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering. As an undergraduate student, he researched gas desorption from zeolites, analyzed storage alternatives for active pharmaceutical ingredients, and was a member of the Chemical Engineering Honor Society.

Mike also has a background in music and plays several different instruments. In his free time, Mike frequently practices clarinet. At CU Boulder, Mike participated in the Golden Buffalo Marching Band as a tenor drummer. As a Colorado transplant, Mike also enjoys skiing and ice hockey.
