May 21, 2014

Preparing Witnesses - The Good, Bad & Ugly

New York, N.Y.

For well over a quarter century, Tax Executives Institute has offered its Audits and Appeals seminar, educating over 5,000 tax professionals in the nuts, bolts and nuance of tax controversy. This year’s program, hosted live and simulcast in New York City and Washington, D.C., is oriented as a “hands-on”  Interactive presentation of issues and scenarios arising from selected facets of the tax controversy lifecycle.

In their presentation on preparing witnesses, Chamberlain Hrdlicka tax controversy attorneys Larry A. Campagna and Philip Karter will address a variety of witness interview circumstances, from IDR interviews, to summons testimony to trial depositions.  Their presentation will include a discussion of the important distinctions between a taxpayer’s rights in dealing with employee witnesses versus third-party witnesses, the implications of tactical objectives on how the taxpayer approaches the witness interview process, and the ethical considerations in witness preparation.
