Chamberlain, Hrdlicka, White, Williams & Aughtry has expanded its bankruptcy team by hiring Mark Sherrill, who was co-partner-in-charge of Eversheds Sutherland’s Houston office.

Sherrill, who handles bankruptcy and restructuring matters, joined Housten-founded Chamberlain Hrdlicka as a shareholder in Houston on Monday.

“Mark aligns perfectly with our firm's strategic direction and client service standards and bolsters the strength of our Litigation department in building our Bankruptcy practice,” Larry Campagna, the firm’s managing shareholder, wrote in a press release.

Campagna wrote the Sherrill brings experience handling complex bankruptcy cases, along with leadership skills from managing his prior firm’s office.

In addition to bankruptcy work, Sherrill works on matters involving derivatives and commodity contracts, advising energy companies and commodity traders on managing risks related to financially distressed counterparties and on how to assess credit and liquidity risks.

Over the past year, Sherril said, he started thinking about opportunities at other firms, after practicing at his former firm for 21 years, and he “just got lucky” by landing at Chamberlain Hrdlicka. He said he’s been aware of the firm’s reputation in the market for a long time, and he looks forward to helping the firm expand its bankruptcy and restructuring practice. His clients will benefit from the firm’s range of practices, he said.

“it has a huge Houston presence and that’s one thing, and the Houston economy is so dynamic on the more local level,” he said.

For about the last 10 years, Sherrill said, much of his bankruptcy practice has been concentrated in U.S. Bankruptcy Courts in the Southern and Northern Districts of Texas, and Chamberlain Hrdlicka is a good fit for that.

His clients include Freepoint Energy Solutions and ARM energy Management.

With his hiring, the firm has two bankruptcy lawyers, and the practice will grow organically, Sherrill said.

The veteran bankruptcy litigator said the practice is “moderately busy” now, and filings are up on a year-over-year basis.

In 2024, Chamberlain Hrdlicka cracked the Am Law 200 list, but it slipped back this year onto the 2025 Mid-Market Pro 50. Eversheds Sutherland was ranked 39th on the 2025 Global 200.

Spokespersons for Eversheds Sutherland did not immediately respond to a request for a comment on Sherrill’s departure.
