Habeeb “Hobbs” Gnaim, the head of Chamberlain's Tax Planning & Business Transaction Group, participated as a speaker to discuss the importance of company succession for closely held business at the State Bar of Texas’ 29th Annual Advanced Estate Planning Strategies Seminar, held at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Lake Tahoe, California on April 20-21, 2023. Many of Texas' best planning attorneys attend this annual seminar.  

The presentation, “Lessons From King Lear: How (and How Not) to Transition a Closely Held Business,” discussed a host of tax, business and estate planning issues related to company succession such recommended business structures, planned and unplanned business transition events, buy-sell agreements, voting and nonvoting interests, deadlock situations, buy-out structures, how to calculate purchase prices, valuation methods, voting trusts and the documentation needed for effectively transitioning a business.
