In an article published on May 29, 2020 by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), Annette Idalski and Monica Pogula discuss the new Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirement that says all employers must determine whether employees who have COVID-19 contracted it at work.

"To comply with the new enforcement guidance, whenever an employee becomes ill with COVID-19, the employer needs to conduct a mini investigation," explained the attorneys in an interview with SHRM.

The article further discusses that an employer can reasonably conclude that a case is likely not work-related if an employee is the only worker to contract COVID-19 in his or her work area and if the employee's duties don't include contact with the public.
