On March 27, 2020, the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (the "CARES Act" or the "Act") was signed into law. The CARES Act, among other things, provides certain employers (generally, those with 500 or fewer employees, discussed below) an opportunity to apply for an SBA loan of up to $10 million to cover payroll costs and other operation expenses. In response to the overwhelming economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the U.S. economy, on Friday, March 27, 2020, after prior approval by the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives, the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (the “CARES Act” or the “Act”) was signed into law by President Trump.
