Chamberlain Hrdlicka Tax Attorney Named to 2016 ‘Best Lawyers in America’

Stewart M. Weintraub recognized by peers for excellence in tax law for twelfth straight year

PHILADELPHIA (Aug. 17, 2015) – The Philadelphia office of Chamberlain Hrdlicka is proud to announce that shareholder Stewart M. Weintraub has been named to the 2016 edition of The Best Lawyers in America®, one of the legal profession’s oldest and most respected peer-review publications. It is the twelfth consecutive year that Weintraub has been named to the list.

A well-known and respected state and local tax attorney, Weintraub previously was named “Lawyer of the Year” in Tax Litigation and Controversy for Philadelphia, an honor selected by Best Lawyers based on voting averages received during peer-reviewed assessments. Only a single lawyer from each practice area in each designated metropolitan region is honored as Lawyer of the Year, indicating the high level of respect that an attorney has earned from other lawyers for his prowess, professionalism and integrity.

Since being admitted to the Pennsylvania bar in 1971, Weintraub has focused his practice upon state and local taxation, helping clients plan and structure transactions so that all state and local tax obligations are minimized. From audits through trials and appeals to the appellate courts, Weintraub represents clients in all aspects of state and local tax compliance and litigation.

A longtime, respected tax professional in Philadelphia, Weintraub began his career with the City of Philadelphia Law Department, rising to become chief of tax litigation and serving as chief counsel of former Mayor William Green’s Tax Reform Commission. Weintraub also served as a member of the 2003 Philadelphia Tax Reform Commission created pursuant to the City’s Home Rule Charter. He has held leadership positions for the American Bar Association and the Philadelphia Bar Association and has chaired or co-chaired the state and local tax committee for the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce since 1983. Now in private practice, Weintraub has been a shareholder at Chamberlain Hrdlicka since 2010.

Since it was first published in 1983, The Best Lawyers in America has become widely regarded as a respected reference guide to legal excellence. Best Lawyers lists are compiled based on detailed peer-review evaluations, and lawyers are neither required nor allowed to pay a fee to be listed. Votes are solicited from nearly 80,000 attorneys worldwide; 6.7 million votes were analyzed for the 2016 edition.

The standalone Best Lawyers magazine will be distributed in more than 30 leading publications around the country, including The New York Times, The Philadelphia Inquirer, The Washington Post and The Wall Street Journal. A digital edition also will be available.
