Cullinan discusses his insights on the IRS
On February 27, 2024, Atlanta-based Shareholder Tom Cullinan sat down with Middle Market Dojo to discuss his insights on the IRS. Prior to joining our firm, Cullinan was a part of the Commissioner’s core leadership team at the IRS and advised on substantial issues like the IRS strategic plan and budget.
On this podcast, Cullinan shared his experience of working at the IRS, providing his thoughts on current enforcement policies, covered other important topics like the Employee Retention Credit (ERC) and addressed what taxpayers should expect and other potential implications.
When talking about their strategic plan and where he thinks the enforcement focus is currently, Cullinan said, “According to the plan, it’s going to go after corporations, partnerships, high net worth individuals, emerging issues, promoters of transactions that the IRS does like.”
“If you’re going to get an audit, the first thing that the IRS is going to do is probably issue what’s called an Information document request. And you need to think about what your records are, what your exposure is, you probably want to do as best you can to cabin the scope of the audit,” Cullinan told the podcast.
