Law360’s 2023 Texas Editorial Advisory Board appoints David Calvillo

Recently, Law360 has appointed David Calvillo, shareholder in the Houston and San Antonio offices of Chamberlain Hrdlicka, to its 2023 Texas Editorial Advisory Board. Calvillo is an accomplished board-certified civil trial lawyer, certified public accountant, and certified valuation analyst, and brings a variety of skill sets to his practice. He has successfully tried, litigated, and arbitrated matters in diverse practice areas, including breach of contract, federal tax, property tax, business separation, business torts, construction, shareholder rights, professional negligence, personal injury and wrongful death, employment, debt collection, and intellectual property matters.

As an experienced professional neutral, Calvillo actively serves as an arbitrator in commercial, construction, employment, international, and health law disputes with the American Arbitration Association, the American Health Lawyer’s Association, and in court-appointed and party-selected disputes. As a mediator, he has conducted thousands of mediations and has earned the recognition of his peers as a Distinguished Credentialed Mediator. Fluent in Spanish, he is one of the few truly bilingual mediators and bilingual arbitrators available throughout the State of Texas. His multidisciplinary expertise has earned him the attention of his colleagues and Texas courts, who have tapped him to serve as a Special Discovery Master and Receiver in scores of complex litigation matters.

Deeply involved in the legal community, Calvillo serves on the Board of Directors of the Hispanic Bar Association of Houston. He is a member of the Houston Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) and an Elected Member of the American Law Institute. He has recently served on the Executive Committee of the State Bar Board of Directors, including as the Board Liaison with the Texas Bar Foundation; the Board Liaison with the Board of Disciplinary Appeals and the Tax Section of the State Bar of Texas; the Chair of the State Bar of Texas’ Audit & Finance Committee; and a member of the Budget Committee. He has previously served the legal profession as an Exam Commissioner for the Civil Trial Specialization Committee of the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, as a member of the Council of the ADR Section, the Council of the Hispanic Issues Section of the State Bar of Texas, and as the Chair of the region’s State Bar of Texas Grievance Committee. 

Calvillo received a bachelor’s degree in accounting from The University of Texas – Pan American and a law degree from the University of Texas School of Law and an Executive LLM (Masters of Law) degree in Tax from Georgetown University Law Center. He’s been named to Texas “Super Lawyers” list for the past 16 consecutive years and to “Houstonia magazine’s “Top Lawyer” since 2019. He is rated “AV - Preeminent” by Martindale Hubbell. A native of the Rio Grande Valley in deep South Texas, he is also proudly bicultural and bilingual.
