Nicholas Papleacos recognized as Lawyer of the Year for 2021 in Eminent Domain and Condemnation Law by US News’ Best Lawyers in America

Nicholas S. Papleacos, a shareholder at Chamberlain Hrdlicka’s Atlanta office, was named Lawyer of the Year In Eminent Domain and Condemnation in the Atlanta area in  the 2021 Edition of The Best Lawyers in America.

Papleacos concentrates his practice in condemnation litigation and construction law litigation.  In condemnation, he represents landowners and business tenants whose property is affected by takings of their property by state, county and local government agencies for public projects. He has tried cases against state agencies, counties and cities to obtain higher values for his clients. His latest trial against the Georgia Department of Transportation resulted in a large award for the landowner, and a separate ward for the business owner of a fast food restaurant that was financially damaged by the DOT’s construction of a new form of intersection in Dawson County, Georgia.

He also maintains a construction law practice, representing general contractors and specialty trade contractors involved in coatings, mechanical and electrical work. Papleacos counsels clients in disputes throughout the country in state and federal court trials and in arbitration proceedings. He also advises general contractors on federal and state construction projects, litigating issues arising out of federal contracts and regulations. Papleacos has significant experience assisting clients in negotiating construction contracts by using distinct clauses to avoid or minimize financial risks. Papleacos was also named as a Best Lawyer for his construction law practice.

He has served as trustee and past chairman for the Southern Polytechnic State University Foundation, as well as trustee for its successor, Kennesaw State University Foundation. He has taught for the past 15 years in the Construction Management Department at Kennesaw State University.

Papleacos earned his undergraduate degree from Harvard College and his law degree from University of South Carolina School of Law.
