Stewart M. Weintraub Named Among Philadelphia’s ‘Best Lawyers’

Best Lawyers® recognizes Chamberlain Hrdlicka attorney for 10th consecutive year

PHILADELPHIA (March 28, 2014) – The Philadelphia office of Chamberlain Hrdlicka is proud to announce that shareholder Stewart M. Weintraub has been named to the 2014 Best Lawyers® list for the Philadelphia area.

A well-known and respected state and local tax attorney, Weintraub has been ranked among the Best Lawyers in America since 2005. He previously was named the 2014 “Lawyer of the Year” in Tax Litigation and Controversy for Philadelphia, an honor selected by Best Lawyers based on voting averages received during thousands of peer-reviewed assessments.

Only a single lawyer from each practice area in each designated metropolitan region is honored as Lawyer of the Year. The designation indicates a high level of respect that a lawyer has earned from other leading lawyers in the same community and practice area for their prowess, professionalism and integrity.

“Stewart’s excellence in tax law is apparent to everyone who has had the opportunity to work with him,” said Wayne Risoli, managing shareholder of Chamberlain Hrdlicka. “Chamberlain Hrdlicka is proud that Stewart once again has been named amongst the country’s Best Lawyers, strengthening our tax practice in Philadelphia.”

On March 28, Best Lawyers will release the 2014 edition of Philadelphia's Best Lawyers. More than 250,000 copies of the standalone magazine will be distributed with The Philadelphia Inquirer and The Wall Street Journal. A digital edition also will be available.

Since being admitted to the Pennsylvania bar in 1971, Weintraub has focused his practice upon state and local taxation, helping clients plan and structure transactions so that all state and local tax obligations are minimized. From audits through trials and appeals to the appellate courts, Weintraub represents clients in all aspects of state and local tax compliance and litigation.

A longtime respected tax professional in Philadelphia, Weintraub began his career with the City of Philadelphia Law Department where he rose to be chief of tax litigation and where he served as chief counsel of former Mayor William Green’s Tax Reform Commission. He also served as a member of the 2003 Philadelphia Tax Reform Commission created pursuant to the City’s Home Rule Charter.  He has held leadership positions for the American Bar Association and the Philadelphia Bar Association and has chaired or co-chaired the state and local tax committee for the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce since 1983. Now in private practice, Weintraub has been a shareholder at Chamberlain Hrdlicka since 2010.
