Chamberlain Hrdlicka Attorneys named as 2022 Pennsylvania Super Lawyers and Rising Star

Phil Karter, Ken Trujillo and Stewart Weintraub named 2022 Pennsylvania Super Lawyers and Jennifer Karpchuk named 2022 Rising Star

Chamberlain Hrdlicka is pleased to announce that four of its Philadelphia-based attorneys have been named to the 2022 "Pennsylvania Super Lawyers" list. Shareholders Philip Karter, Kenneth Trujillo and Stewart Weintraub were selected as “Pennsylvania Super Lawyers” and Shareholder Jennifer Karpchuk was selected as a “Pennsylvania Rising Star” by the publication.

Fewer than 5% of all attorneys across the Commonwealth throughout 70 practice areas are selected for inclusion in the “Pennsylvania Super Lawyers” list. The annual selections are made using a patented multiphase process that includes a statewide survey of lawyers, an independent research evaluation of candidates and peer reviews by practice area.

Philip Karter
Karter focuses his practice on tax controversy and tax litigation matters encompassing a wide variety of complex and high-profile tax matters, a number of which have involved issues of first impression. He has litigated Federal tax cases in the United States District Courts, the United States Tax Court and the United States Court of Federal Claims, and he has argued in the United States Court of Appeals in multiple circuits. Karter formerly served as a trial attorney with the U.S. Department of Justice Tax Division. He earned his undergraduate degree from Emory University, his law degree from the University of Wisconsin School of Law and his Master of Laws in Taxation from New York University’s School of Law. Besides his annual recognition in other legal ranking services since 2006, this is the second year in a row Karter has been selected for inclusion in the “Pennsylvania Super Lawyers” list.

Kenneth Trujillo
Trujillo represents U.S. and foreign corporations, as well as government entities, executives, lawyers and other individuals with a focus on contract disputes, securities, antitrust, education and other regulatory issues. His practice involves complex civil litigation and class actions, and he counsels clients on regulatory matters and internal investigations. Trujillo earned his undergraduate degree from Evangel University and his law degree from University of Pennsylvania Law School, where he now serves as an Adjunct Professor. He has been selected for inclusion in the “Pennsylvania Super Lawyers” list annually since 2005.

Stewart Weintraub
Weintraub is the practice chair emeritus for the firm’s State and Local Tax (S.A.L.T) practice. With more than 50 years of experience, he helps clients plan and structure transactions to minimize state and local tax obligations. Weintraub represents clients in all aspects of state and local tax compliance and litigation, from audits, trials and appeals to the appellate courts. He earned his undergraduate degree from Drexel University and his law degree from Temple University’s Beasley School of Law. Weintraub has been selected for inclusion in the “Pennsylvania Super Lawyers” list annually since 2004.

Jennifer Karpchuk
Karpchuk is the practice co-chair for the firm’s State and Local Tax (S.A.L.T) practice. She focuses her practice on all aspects of state and local tax litigation, controversy, compliance and planning. Karpchuk is a nationally sought-after speaker and writer on topics related to state and local tax. She also co-authors the Pennsylvania Tax Handbook and the Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Bar Association’s Property Tax Deskbook. In 2021, Karpchuk was appointed by Philadelphia’s Mayor Kenney and City Council to the city’s 2021 Tax Reform Working Group. Karpchuk currently serves as the Secretary-Treasurer of the Philadelphia Bar Association’s Tax Section, as well as the Chair of the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s Tax Section. Karpchuk earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Delaware and her law degree from Temple University’s Beasley School of Law. She has been selected for inclusion in the “Pennsylvania Rising Star” list five times beginning in 2016.
